4 Essentials For Your Job Search Travel Bag

4 Essentials For Your Job Search Travel Bag 33 Tips to help you plan the journey to your next job. This is a guest post by Joey Trebif. If you’d also like to guest post here on JobMob, follow these guest post guidelines. “On the road again… Just can't wait to get on the road again.” â€" Willie Nelson It's 6am and the car is waiting outside your house to take you to the airport.eval Bag and briefcase in hand, you head out to the car for the beginning of yet another tiring business trip. You think back to the beginning of your career when you could not wait for the time when you would get to travel for business.eval A couple of too many trips later, there is nothing you would like better than to be stuck behind your desk with no travel at all. Grueling as it all is, you are on the road again for better or for worse. Traveling for business vs. looking for a job I was on the road for several weeks not too long ago and it got me to thinking about the similarities between traveling for business and looking for a job. Planning your trip (picking the companies you want to work for), airlines/hotels (getting to your interviews), business meetings (interviews), packing (resumes, cover letters, etc.) and at the end of it all, filing your expense report (negotiating your compensation). Of course a lot depends on what inspired you to look for a job in the first place. If you are really unhappy in your current job (not paid enough, not challenged, not a good place to work, etc.) then you've been proactive in planning your next trip (as in search for a job) and ready to be on the road again. If you've lost your job, then your search is like one of those business trips from hell â€" you really don't want to go but really don't have a choice. If you are like most of us, you think you know everything you need to plan your trip but don't mind a little help just to make sure you don't forget to pack something. Let me be your travel agent So here's what you need in your trusty travel bag: Resume All of us have our skill sets, but not many of us are experienced enough in job search to be able to put together an effective marketing plan. The first step in fixing this and getting on the right track is to admit to yourself you need some help (and there is nothing wrong with that). How to Build a Better Resume Cover Letters While not as important as your resume, your cover letter is typically the first thing a recruiter or company HR representative sees. If it is missing or poorly put together it is unlikely they will even look at your resume so it is important to get this right. Two Types of Cover Letters Specific and General Examples References Your references can make or break you. They must be representative of your career and social networks. The general rule of thumb is to avoid relatives, but you should definitely leverage “friends of the family”. You also should have a fair representation of peers, subordinates and managers. Resume References Network Networking for job search is underrated (and it certainly is not the Psychic Network). For some of us (like me) there is nothing I like less than “bothering” a former co-worker, friend, relative or business associate to let them know that I am out of work /or looking for a job. There are, of course, many people who don’t have a problem with this. Seven Networking Myths: Fact or Fiction? Safe travels and good luck in your job search. Get the Ultimate Body with Meal Replacement Shakes

Get the Ultimate Body with Meal Replacement Shakes Recently, after talking to some of my closest friends, I fell out with one because of what I would describe as honesty. You see, I’m the kind of woman who tells things straight as they are without bending them in anyone’s favor. The thing is, we were discussing weight matters and I happened to assert that indeed, obesity is unhealthy and is a serious issue. At times, we hurt without intent; but that’s just the world. Upon getting home, I decided to find a way of helping her to cut down on her excess weight. To my surprise, I came across something I might define as new because I never heard of it before. Is it just me or you have heard of Meal Replacement Shakes before? The closest I ever came to a “shake” was a milkshake. Moving on, this is a high nutrition shake that can substitute most of the food that we take. Its concept is making one to eat less without compromising on their nutritional demands. In this way, losing weight is a lighter bargain. In case you want to lose weight but dread the intense training sessions, slimming belts or pills, this sounds like a healthy alternative. What the meal replacement shake does is to replace two of your main meals every day. Worry not as the formula ensures that you do not starve or lack key nutrients. The two meals are replaced by the high nutrition shakes that are low in calories. I assume that you understand that calories are your worst enemies when it comes to losing weight. I am truly amazed by the inventions that are being made to solve some of these problems. Just the other day, losing weight was about jogging for miles, attending aerobic sessions, enduring uncomfortable slimming belts all day or starving oneself. The problem with these traditional slimming methods is that for some, they are a lot to handle and some are not reliable. For instance, if I lost weight through fasting, it meant that once I began feeding normally, the weight problem would probably reincarnate. Today, and merely out of chance, I am talking about an amazing discovery. By the way, lest I forget, the shakes come in different flavors such as Chocolate and Strawberry flavors! Can you imagine trusting a delicious meal to deal with your weight problem? Well, here is one! In my extended research driven by curiosity, I found out that meal substitutes can be used by vegans, too. The formula is carefully balanced so as to provide the body with everything that it requires. Therefore, you only eat enough of what you need without storing excess calories. I am sure my friend will like them. Hopefully, she will understand that my words were not malicious once I table this to her. My hopes are high because I know if she exerts a bit of physical effort she would be on the right track to health, also, I’m sure nobody on this universe can resist the temptation of strawberry and chocolate!

Giving Assistant Its Like Coupons On Demand Only Even Better

Giving Assistant Its Like Coupons On Demand Only Even Better So who doesnt like to save money?  Im guessing that about no one answered.  In todays world, you have to be cost conscious or end up wondering  where all your money went at the end of the month.  Thankfully, the ability to shop online has meant lots of competition for our shopping dollars.   But what if there was a way to squeeze even more value out of that hard-earned paycheck? I was recently introduced to Giving Assistant, an online site that provides rebates on every dollar you spend.  I know, youve seen it before.  Yeah, me too.  So what makes them different?  How about these great features: You get to keep all of the commissions they earn on your purchase.  Thats your cash back. You can designate all, a portion, or none of your savings to be donated to a charity of your choice. They donate meals to the needy when their coupon codes are used. I was even more impressed by their mission statement: Our Mission:  To increase the positive impact of global online shopping Giving Assistant is a free, incentivized shopping experience, working with over 1,200 brands and e-retailers, including eBay, Target Walmart. Brands provide them with semi-exclusive discounts and  commissions that they pass on to  members as cash back. Members can earn $700 or more in cash back annually. On Giving Assistant they are able to automatically donate any percentage of that cash to the charity of their choice. In their first 12 months,  members earned over $1 million in cash back and generated over $180k in donations. Whether you donate or not, every time you earn cash back, Giving Assistant will donate a meal to a needy family on your behalf. So far theyve provided over 500,000 meals by donating to Feeding America. But Is It Easy To Use? All of the great things about them wouldnt be so great if it was difficult to use or if they wanted a ton of personal information.  However, neither of those is the case.  It takes just a minute to sign up, and they ask nothing but your email address.  You have the option to have an alert installed that lets you know whenever youre on a site they partner with. The user interface is super simple.  You start by signing up with either your Facebook account or your email. You can search for stores whether or not youre signed in.  Just enter the name in the search bar and up pops the info on how much the cash back is for that site, as well as available coupon codes.  Either way, everyone wins. You get a discount and/or cash back The store gets a new customer Donations are made to those in need The website stays in business (be sure to read their interesting story on this!) At present, thats about 1,800 sites, including virtually all the popular ones. Here are some examples: Forever 21 Sephora J.Crew Thats just three out of hundreds, covering just about anything imaginable. Money Saved is  . . . Money Saved! Ive always felt like most retailers earn plenty of money on the items they sell.  So Im always on the lookout for ways to keep a little more in my purse.  This one really scores by doing that AND having a socially conscious business model.  Give them a look! Connecting on LinkedIn is Like Asking for a Date - Career Pivot

Connecting on LinkedIn is Like Asking for a Date - Career Pivot MyConnecting on LinkedIn is Like What? Have you considered that when you are connecting on LinkedIn you should follow the same rules that you used when you asked for a date? I have been married for over thirty years. My memories of dating are pretty vague but I do remember those awkward feelings when asking for a date. I remember that I did not want to be rejected, ignored or dumped. When you are connecting on LinkedIn, consider the following: How do you know this person? Did you meet at a conference or meeting? Maybe you read an article on their website or did you comment on their blog? Is it a personal or a virtual relationship? Why do you want to create a connection on LinkedIn with this person? Do you want to network with this person? Do they work at a company that you are targeting? Can they introduce you to decision makers? Can they help you get your next job? Do you think they are doing interesting work and would like to connect personally? Is there anything you can do for them? People rarely do this but if there is something reciprocal in nature to the connection â€" mention it. Why are you asking for the date … eerr … the connection on LinkedIn? How do you know the connection and why do you want to connect? LinkedIn used to make you check a box on how you knew the connection. Too many people figured out how to get around that requirement by lying. However, it is still important to think about how you found this person and what you expect from the relationship. Writing the Connection Request When you press the connect button on a LinkedIn profile (and that is the ONLY place from which you should initiate a connection request,) you will now get a popup like the following: You should always select “add a note.” I will write a connection request like the following: Listen to the most recent episode Mary, It was great meeting you at XYZ conference. (Notice I specify where we met.) I looked at your profile and see that we have a lot in common.I look forward to meeting you again and corresponding about EFG (whatever we talked about at the conference.) I would enjoy continuing the conversation. (Give Mary a reason to stay engaged.) Please accept this invitation to connect. Marc Miller This invitation quickly tells Mary: Where we met What we have in common Gives her a reason to stay connected I am a real person and not just sending out SPAM If I found Mary by reading one of her articles I will tell her. How is this Like Dating? This is using the same tactics that men have used for years. If you want to meet a girl, you hang around those groups, classes, clubs … where the girls you want to meet congregate. I am dropping all of the little hints that I like you and would like to get to know you. I want to go out on a date …eerr … I want to network with you. Blind Date Sometimes you receive LinkedIn connections like the following: I look at this kind of invitation as a blind date. Do I turn down the overture? I take a quick look at the profile and if the profile looks real, i.e. the profile has a picture, there is some employment history, and it has more than a few connections, then I accept the connection. I immediately go to the profile and send a LinkedIn message. Dear Mary, Just accepted your invitation to connect. How did you find me? Marc Miller Just because the person may be shy I do not want turn down the opportunity for a date. When I graduated from high school, I was 6’4? tall, weighed about 140 lbs. and had a big head of red hair. I was also pretty shy around girls. I was no chick magnet. Therefore, I understand when people send connection requests with no notes. However, I want you to send a note to explain why you want to connect in every connection request. Be Authentic Be authentic, personable and most importantly tell me how we know each other! If you want a date …errr … a connection on LinkedIn, then you should behave just like you are asking for a date! Give it a try and let me know how it works! Marc Miller Like what you just read? How to quantify your experience on your resume - Margaret Buj - Interview Coach

How to quantify your experience on your resume If youve been doing your homework about how to write an effective CV/resume (or if youve had a coaching session with me!:-), you’ll be aware that you have to quantify your experience. Although most people understand the general idea of this, I find that job seekers often struggle with applying this idea to writing their resumes. It is easy if you are a sales person â€" you can then talk about your percentage achievements and give examples of deals you’ve closed. But what if you are not in a sales role? Here are three easy ways to quantify your experience: 1. Show How Many Sometimes our responsibilities don’t sound that impressive until we start detailing how much work we’ve been doing. For instance, if one of your job responsibilities is tracking your company’s compliance with filing a set of forms every year, you could write that two different ways: Ensured compliance with filing of annual forms. â€"orâ€" Ensured compliance with the filing of 75 annual forms by 7 different company departments. Doesn’t the second example sound much more impressive? 2. Show How Much If you have a job in sales, marketing, or any other business where profitability is the ultimate goal of your position, citing exactly how much money you’ve either made or saved your company is the way to go. For example, if you’re an internal auditor, your resume could say: Saved company money by finding ways to cut costs. â€"orâ€" Implemented new payroll and tax accounting systems that saved firm $1M in personnel costs over the next 10 years. Estimates are fine when citing these types of numbers, as long as you can justify your claim if someone asks you in an actual interview. 3. Show How Often Even an administrative assistant’s job sounds completely different when given some context: Answered phones at the front desk. â€"orâ€" Managed switchboard with 10 incoming lines, effectively receiving and routing an average of 500 calls per day. Who wouldnt hire the second candidate? As you write your resume, ask yourself these three important questions: How many? How much? How often? The key to landing an interview is to answer those questions as you describe your previous professional accomplishments. How a Louisville Resume Writing Service Can Help You Find a Great Job Opportunity

How a Louisville Resume Writing Service Can Help You Find a Great Job OpportunityLouisville resume writing services are a great idea for any company with job openings. Because of the proximity of Louisville to Cincinnati, where most job opportunities in the Cincinnati area are located, having a local service for this purpose is a good thing for a company. A Louisville resume writing service can also help the hiring manager in finding the perfect candidate.Hiring managers can get themselves in a bind if they aren't careful. In a typical interview, the hiring manager doesn't know much about the company, and it is up to the job seeker to make the connection. If the hiring manager lacks knowledge about the company, the chances of them finding the perfect candidate are low. Also, if the hiring manager doesn't have any connections in the community, it will be very difficult to find the right fit. If the hiring manager has a good professional resume writer on staff, he or she will be able t o pull off a wonderful interview.Resume writing services can help the hiring manager to make this connection. They can help them find the right candidates by using hiring managers that are familiar with the types of candidates that Louisville can offer. This means that the hiring manager can help to make their job easier and find the perfect candidate.Hiring managers should always make sure that they do some preliminary research before they go out and hire a company. They should look at the type of person that the hiring company is looking for. There are several demographics that can be useful to a hiring manager, and these include:Qualified Personnel. If you are going to use Louisville resume writing services to do the job for you, you should make sure that the company does not leave anything out when it comes to qualifications. If the company is going to use the experience of other people, then you should make sure that the people who will be doing the work know what it takes to g et a job done. The best Louisville resume writing services will also make sure that the hiring manager is able to see that the candidate really did have the required experience.Part Time Work Experience. Sometimes hiring companies need a quick fix, and they will use this type of candidate to meet a deadline. If you want a job, you should make sure that the candidate has the experience you need in order to get the job.Professional Resume Writer. Some people have nothing to say, but they have something to say about themselves. If you are trying to land a job and you need a professional resume writer to get you a job, you should make sure that you hire the right person. Many times, a Cincinnati based company can provide you with more than enough information about a candidate. If you want to know what it takes to get a job, there are no better places to find this information than the hiring manager himself. You can find a great job opportunity with a local company that is familiar with L ouisville and Cincinnati, and Louisville resume writing services can help you get it.
